May 18, 2016: Eyezone Institute of Opticianry, a comprehensive continuing education training centre based in Kuwait, hosted a mini-conference magnifying public health optometry in a lecture conducted by distinguished educator, Director of Global Human Resource Development and Global Education at Brien Holden Vision Institute, Dr. Luigi Bilotto, OD MS. Sharing important insights in optometry, Dr. Bilotto summed up the Institute’s public vision health studies and projects, with primary focus on combating myopia in every continent around the world.

In 2008, Brien Holden Vision Institute supported, among others, Mzuzu University’s establishment of Malawi School of Optometry, which aims to tackle issues on avoidable blindness and vision impairment in disadvantaged communities in Southern Africa, targeting to eliminate blindness by 2020. The Institute conducted a global study while forecasting that 10 per cent of the world’s population will be at risk of blindness by 2050, with the hopes of appealing to and mobilizing the public to assist people who have limited access to eye care.

Dr. Bilotto also noted the Institute’s collaborative projects underway and potential joint activities with Eyezone Institute in the coming years to open new doors toward embracing the concept of continuing education across the region. The mini-conference ends with a light lunch buffet while Dr. Bilotto and the Eyezone team speak with some of Kuwait’s industry leaders and ECPs who attended the gathering.
