Kuwait Hosted 22nd Conference to Update ECPs’ Knowledge in Ophthalmology

The Ministry of Health in Kuwait, in its continuous development in the field of ophthalmology and the exchange of professional experiences, as well as updates on the advancement of treatment techniques, held “The 22nd Ophthalmology Conference: Comprehensive Ophthalmology Updates” from 9-11 February 2023, at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel. The annual event took place under the auspices of the Minister of Health, Dr. Ahmed Abdulwahab Al-Awadhi, to discuss the latest medical developments in various specialties of ophthalmology and ophthalmic surgery.

The ministry’s ophthalmology consultant and conference chair, Dr. Faisal Al-Jassar, stated that the objective of the conference is to provide the latest updates in General Ophthalmology, in addition to other focused specialties such as cornea, glaucoma, uveitis, retina, oculoplasty and neurophthalmology. He added that the program covered diverse sessions addressing various topics presented by prominent Arab and international guest speakers.

The conference committee members consisted of heads of various organizations and government agencies, namely Dr. Faisal Al-Jassar (Conference Chair), Dr. Ahmad Alfoudari (Ophthalmology Council), Dr. Talal Alabduljalil (KIMS Ophthalmology Faculty Chair), Dr. Ahmad Alsaleh (Kuwait Ophthalmic Society President), and Dr. Raed Behbehani (Scientific Committee Chair). Over 40 renowned doctors from different countries, the MENA region and Kuwait, participated as speakers, moderators and panelists in the event to tackle modern mechanisms and methods of treatment, as well as complex surgeries in cornea and retina specialties, and many others.

The conference included ten training workshops on various operational procedures, which were supervised by specialized ophthalmologists. Some of the highlights of the event include recent discussions on corneal pathology, glaucoma updates, new trends in infectious eye diseases, updates in eye treatments and surgical procedures, updates and regional experiences in artificial intelligence in retina, teleophthalmology, surgery-free “in-office” management of eye diseases, and developments in pediatric vision health, among others.
