To make sure that your child does well in school and social life, a good eyesight is important. Through their childhood, it is crucial to look after your child’s eyes as they are still developing. In this digital age, children are spending way too much of their time with their eyes glued to the television screen watching their favorite cartoon series on Netflix or are busy playing game on the small screen of the mobile phones. But during the pandemic, the screen time of the children has increased more due to online schooling, where children are spending six to seven hours looking at the screen.
This is proving to be quite harmful to children’s eyes. But with a combination of safe eye exercises which can be done daily and regular eye examinations, your child will be set on a course to a healthy eyesight. Each exercise mentioned below can be done 10 times in a day.
Safe Eye Exercises
- Side to side: Help your child to place their hands out to their side, which need to wider than the shoulders. Then ask them to move their eyes slowly from side to side, focusing on the palms alone.
- Up and down: ask your child to look up the ceiling and slowly look down at the floor without moving their head.
- Thumb to nose: Have your child place his hand straight out in front of them, with their thumb pointed upwards. With both their eyes open, ask them to focus on their nose for a few seconds first and then move their focus to the thumb.
- Eye writing: This is a fun exercise that you can do with your child. Ask your child to draw letters, numbers or shapes on a wall using only their eyes.
- Shifting: This will help your child to quickly shift their focus from one object to another. Select any three objects in a room (for example, a photo frame on a wall, the television and the window). Have your child move their focus from one object to the other very quickly.
