Generally speaking, considering the overall economic outlook, however, a slowdown in exports is expected in the second half of 2023: <strong>growth in value at the end of the year is therefore estimated to be between 8 and 10%</strong>.</p> <p>After coping with soaring costs in 2022, partially reduced for the time being, eyewear companies are now faced with <strong>rising interest rates</strong> posing a serious problem in terms of credit access.</p> <p>On a general level, <strong>global uncertainty</strong> continues to be perceived. Growth of the Italian economy is slowing down: while tourism-driven services are holding their own, the same cannot be said for industry, and the construction sector is declining. Investments have therefore slowed down, contributing to consumption uncertainty and a gradual decrease in goods exports. According to international analysts, the crisis in Germany should be short-lived and the U.S. economy should continue to grow, while China, instead, is at risk of deflation.</p> <p><strong>Exports First Half 2023</strong></p> <p>In the first half of 2023, exports in the industry continued a double-digit trend compared to the first half of 2022: <strong>+15.7%</strong>,<strong> at 2 billion 840 accompanied by more subdued growth in the Italian market, which nevertheless significantly recovered compared to the first post-pandemic period.</p><p><strong>Consumption</strong>,<strong> monitored by GfK in the specialized optician channel</strong>, performed well compared to the same period in 2022 (+4.3% for the January-June figure).</p><p>Closer analysis of this figure shows, alongside the significant growth in sales of sunglasses (+4.5% in value in the first half of the year), the prescription segment, which accounted for 70% of optician channel sales, divided between frames (+5.9%) and lenses (4.3%). The trend of higher performance of high value-added products was maintained, especially for ophthalmic lenses.</p><p>The sell-in figure also confirms these trends.</p><p><strong>Conclusions</strong></p><p><em>“The figures for the first half of the year confirm the positive trend of the sector. However, the complex economic scenario and the continuous rise in interest rates, impose a cautious outlook. At this time, we can expect a slowdown in exports in the short term, following market signs, such as the weakening of U.S. exports in recent months, despite maintaining high levels.” </em>said the <strong>ANFAO President</strong>,<strong> Giovanni Vitaloni</strong>.</p><p>According to the<strong> International Monetary Fund’s WORLD ECONOMIC OUTLOOK</strong>, <strong>global growth</strong> forecasts were revised downwards, from 3.5% in 2022 to <strong>3.0%</strong> for 2023.</p><p>The aspect of most concern is the growth rate in advanced economies, still the main outlet for all major sectors, and which is not expected to exceed 1.5% in 2023.</p><p>The <strong>European Area</strong> (which alone accounts for about 50% of the sector’s exports) which is also particularly important for the eyewear sector, would appear to have the <strong>lowest growth rate of all</strong> in 2023 according to the latest forecasts: <strong>0.9%</strong>.</p> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> Open to all exhibitors, the aim of the prize is to distinguish a company in the optical sector for its contribution to reducing its environmental impact and optimizing its social impact. The show has collaborated with the CSR agency Hyssop, to draw up the award specifications and evaluate the candidate companies. An independent jury, made up of optics professionals and CSR experts, evaluated the applications and chose the winner of this first edition: MYKITA, a Berlin-based company founded in 2003, which has committed itself to a strategy of responsibility incorporating environmental and social aspects, in order to reduce the footprint of its products and its overall activities.</p><p>The INTERNATIONAL OPTICIAN OF THE YEAR AWARD, awarded by the IOA (International Opticians Association) in partnership with SILMO Paris, encourages and rewards opticians for their vision and commitment to promoting the values of their profession. For the first time, it’s a Frenchman who has won this 2023 award: Jean-François Porte, co-founder of the Edgard group and vice-president of the Rassemblement des Opticiens de France.</p><p><b>The future of the industry is at the heart of the themes addressed by SILMO Paris.</b></p><p>SILMO NEXT, a multi-disciplinary forum dedicated to the future, retraced the latest technological innovations and major advances in Smart Eyewear, phygital experiences and eco-responsible design. In addition to this immersive retrospective, FUTUROLOGY unveiled unique experience zones for testing smart products, discovering new trends in virtual reality, and experimenting with an innovative approach to sustainable production.</p><p><b>Design is king at the show, and is expressed in two ways.</b></p><p>The first is the TRENDS FORUM, a space set up at the entrance to the show to enable visitors to immerse themselves in the major trends, thanks to a thematic selection of optical and sunglass frames from exhibitors present at the show. These trends are also illustrated in issue 33 of the digital magazine TRENDS by SILMO.</p><p>The second was the OPTICAL DESIGN CONTEST, reserved for design school students from all over the world; for this second edition, they were invited to brainstorm on a topical theme: sport. The book contains real-life scenarios faced by sales persons and details the sales process, as well as the personalities of patients, customers and owners using a comprehensive approach in professional selling skills. In this feature, Mushtaq shares his inspiration and experiences, including the preparation and challenges it took to make the book a resounding success.</p><p>As a columnist, author, presenter, business administrator, life coach and a kind father, Mushtaq has become a sought-after name in the optical industry in the Gulf region. He ascended the career ladder and is currently a senior manager. He has worked for Johnson and Johnson Vision Care and contributed immensely to the growth of contact lenses in the market. From his humble beginnings, having faced numerous challenges, Mushtaq never lets his circumstances hold him back. But it was his passion to rise to the top of the corporate ladder that ultimately sets him on the path to success.</p><p>“As creative persons, we are always curious to know more and do more. At the same time, we look for triggers to execute our hidden skills. As a co-traveler in the journey of optics, my regular chats with Mr. Ali Hassan Banddor were the catalyst who triggered me to share my experience of my journey. Thus, I started to write in Eyezone International Magazine, which by itself is a pioneering effort in Middle East, and still continues to serve the optical community with zeal and perseverance,” he said.</p><p>Speaking to Eyezone International, Mushtaq said that the book is based on his daily interactions with doctors, sales persons and owners while acknowledging their requests and serving their needs so that they can in turn help the patients to see better and look better.</p><p>“The book contains no hard and fast rules. Whatever I have written and said, it is my opinion based on my observations in the market. It has been shared in good faith to make our calling better and improve our business etiquette so that we can serve our customers and patients exceptionally well,” he explained.</p><p>Mushtaq is encouraging everyone to challenge his opinion and come out with their own best thoughts in the best interest of the business at large. For him, the ultimate goal remains the same for both sides, that is to serve customers and patients exceptionally well.</p><p>Moreover, Mushtaq also shared the book’s publishing process, which is self-published, print-on-demand and currently available on Amazon for a reasonable price. He is planning to collaborate with Eyezone International in the future to distribute the book in the GCC and other regions.</p><p>The book is an anthology of the various articles he had written over a decade in the magazine. The topics were chosen to stay in sync with his experiences during the time of recession, Covid-19, war, and other events which had caused vision anomalies such as incidences of myopia in children, which he said is expected to affect 50% of the world’s population by 2030. He added that due to this fact, the fundamentals in sales and business processes need to match this rising need to help patients see better.</p><p>“The book is full of anecdotes, humor, real life problems and customized solutions. I have full faith it will be enormously beneficial to our trade,” he added.</p><p>Mushtaq said his source of inspiration has been the people whom he has been associated with, as well as the experiences and stories they share. He was referring to the people who have left their home country to work in the Gulf.</p><p>“They pushed their devastated lives behind, albeit their war-torn sufferings and poverty-stricken households and still would put up a smile on their faces to meet their routine customers bravely,” he said. </p><p>“While I have published this book now, in retrospect, our Gulf countries have come a long way since the boom started. The blood and sweat of these wonderful expatriates must have added enormous strength to the concrete pillars we see around. This is an absolute inspiration for me. I dedicate this book to all of them,” he concluded.</p><p>Mushtaq said that he is working on another book about upskilling the youth, especially the teenagers, to give them hope, as well as train them العملاء من المرجح أن تؤدي إلى عدم الرضا بدلاً من إثبات الولاء</strong><strong>.</strong></p><p style="text-align: right;"><strong>يشير بحثهم إلى أهمية صنع “تجربة سهلة” للعملاء. بشكل أساسي، فإن الأعمال التجارية التي يسهل التعامل معها هي ما يزرع العملاء العائدين، ويشجع عمليات الشراء المتكررة، ويولد ردود فعل وإحالات إيجابية. المفتاح هو توفير تجربة تتضمن تحولاً سلساً في الأفكار مع الحد الأدنى من
